Vice premier: China to work with France to secure success of G20 summit

BEIJING, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan said here Friday that China is ready to coordinate with France in pushing for the success of the Group of 20 (G20) summit to be held in Cannes in November.

"Securing the stability of the global economy and the financial market is an important prerequisite for the success of the Cannes summit," Wang said.

He called for the international community to continue to uphold a spirit of unity and cooperation, further strengthen coordination in macro-economic policy, and make an active effort to promote the recovery of global economy and realize strong, sustainable and balanced growth.

Wang made the remarks as he met with French Minister of Economy, Finance and Industry Francois Baroin Friday afternoon.

Wang's comments again elaborated China's stance and expectations for the next G20 summit, following Chinese President Hu Jintao's meeting with French President Nicolas Sarkozy Thursday evening.

Wang said in the beginning of the meeting with Baroin that President Hu and Sarkozy reached a fairly substantial consensus as they held in-depth exchanges on their views on bilateral links, cooperation within the G20 and collaboration on financial and economic issues.

Wang made positive comments on the great amount of work that France has done as the presiding nation of the summit.

He said under the "extremely complicated and uncertain" international economic and financial situation, hosting the Cannes summit of the G20 poses a lot of challenges.

He said as important members of G20, both China and France should maintain even closer communication and coordination at various levels so as to push for the success of the Cannes summit.

Baroin is in Bejing for dialogues with Chinese financial and monetary authorities. He held talks with Chinese Minister of Finance Xie Xuren and central bank governor Zhou Xiaozhuan on Thursday night.

During the meeting with the vice premier, Baroin said France places great importance on its relations with China. He said France is ready to strengthen cooperation with China within the G20 and other multilateral frameworks so as to jointly address global challenges and push forward bilateral links in a healthy, stable way.
